Durban University of Technology

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) traces its lineage to institutions dating back over a century (it marked its centenary in 2007); it was formed when the ML Sultan Technikon and Technikon Natal merged on 1 April 2002 to create the Durban Institute of Technology, which was renamed DUT in March 2006. DUT is a public university of technology with roughly 30,000 students, operating across seven campuses — five in Durban and two in Pietermaritzburg — in KwaZulu-Natal. It offers a mix of academic and vocational qualifications through six faculties. DUT places strong emphasis on research, technology transfer, innovation and enterprise development, holds NRF Research Chairs (including in wastewater treatment technology, digitisation, applied mathematics, and global health and sustainability), and is particularly recognised for its programmes in engineering, health sciences, applied sciences and management sciences.
