Mopani South East TVET College was established in 2003 from the merger of Sir Val Duncan Technical, Phalaborwa Technical and Mapulaneng Technical Colleges; in 2006 the Mapulaneng campus (Bushbuckridge) was de-merged and transferred to Mpumalanga following a provincial demarcation change. The college is now headquartered in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, comprising the Sir Val Duncan Campus (Namakgale, specialising in engineering trades), the Phalaborwa Campus (business studies), the Mosate Hotel School (hospitality/tourism training in a working hotel environment) and a Hoedspruit satellite campus.

Sekhukhune TVET College

Sekhukhune TVET College is a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training college serving the Sekhukhune district in south-eastern Limpopo, formed through a merger of two former colleges, CS Barlow and Dr CN Phatudi, as part of the national restructuring of the further education and training college sector. It operates under the Continuing Education and Training Act 16 of 2006 and is accredited by Umalusi, various SETAs, and the QCTO.

Vhembe TVET College traces its roots to 1963, when it began as the Bantu State School, later becoming Finyazwanda College and then the Technical College of Venda (Techniven) before adopting its current name. The college’s own site states it has “59 years of existence” (as published) and describes itself as having the highest student enrolment of any TVET college nationally, though it does not publish an exact figure.

Flavius Mareka TVET College

Flavius Mareka TVET College is a public TVET college in the Free State, established in 2000 through the merger of Sasolburg Technical College, Kroonstad Technical College and Mphohadi College of Education, and named after Flavius Mareka, a figure in education, politics and culture in the Kroonstad area. The college operates three campuses — Sasolburg (with separate Engineering and Business Studies sites), Kroonstad and Mphohadi — and extends learnership and skills training to smaller Free State towns such as Heilbron, Parys, Koppies and Villiers.

Goldfields TVET College was established in 2002 through the merger of the former Tosa Technical College and Welkom College, taking its name from the Free State goldfields region. Maluti TVET College was established on 1 September 2002 when the Free State Department of Education merged several legacy institutions — Bonamelo and Sefikeng Colleges of Education and the technical colleges at Itemoheleng, Bethlehem, Kwetlisong and Lere la Tshepe — into a single college headquartered in Phuthaditjhaba. It now operates eight campuses (Main/Phuthaditjhaba, Bethlehem, Bonamelo, Harrismith, Itemoheleng, Kwetlisong, Lere la Tshepe and Sefikeng), is accredited by Umalusi and several SETAs, and operates under the Department of Higher Education and Training.

Motheo TVET College is one of four public TVET colleges in the Free State, serving the Motheo and Xhariep districts from a central office in Bloemfontein. Per widely repeated third-party accounts (not itemised on the college’s own site), it was formally established on 1 April 2002 through the merger of the former Bloemfontein, Hillside View and Thaba Nchu technical colleges with Kagisanong College of Education, as part of the national rationalisation of roughly 152 technical colleges into 50 mega-colleges.
