Gert Sibande TVET College was established in 2002 through the merger of the former Technical Colleges of Ermelo, Evander and Standerton, and is named after Richard Gert Sibande, an ANC farm workers’ leader born in the Ermelo district in 1902. The college later expanded with the Sibanesetfu Campus at Mpuluzi (opened 2005), Balfour Campus (2014) and Perdekop Campus (2016), giving it six campuses across Mpumalanga plus a Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre.

It operates five campuses: Upington (headquarters, offering renewable energy, business and hospitality training), Kathu (engineering and mining, serving the iron-ore sector), Namaqualand/Okiep (home to a QCTO Trade Test Centre), Kuruman (safety, business and logistics) and De Aar (business and administration, serving the Pixley ka Seme district).

Northern Cape Urban TVET College (NCUTVET) is based in Kimberley and traces its formation to an amalgamation process that began after 1994: the merger of three Northern Cape technical colleges (Kimberley College, formed from the former Moremogolo and RC Elliott colleges, and the Northern Cape Technical College) became effective on 1 April 2002.
