Its name derives from an indigenous medicinal plant, symbolising the college as an “educational remedy” for the communities it serves across the Joe Gqabi and Chris Hani district municipalities.

Capricorn TVET College

Limpopo

Capricorn TVET College in Limpopo was formed from three predecessor institutions with different histories: the Northern Province Community College, Bochum College of Education, and the former Pietersburg Technical College, following adoption of the FET Act of 1996. It operates four campuses — Polokwane (main administrative and academic hub), Seshego, Ramokgopa and Senwabarwana — serving the Capricorn District and surrounding rural areas of Limpopo.

Lephalale TVET College, formerly known as Ellisras TVET College, is described on its own site as “a product of a merger of two colleges with very distinct and diverse historical backgrounds,” though the merger date and the names of the constituent colleges are not stated on the site itself. Central Johannesburg TVET College (CJC) was established on 11 September 2003, when the Further Education and Training (FET) sector was launched at the college’s Alexandra campus by then Minister Prof. Kadar Asmal; the FET designation was later renamed TVET by Minister Blade Nzimande.
