Ikhala TVET College was formed on 1 April 2002 through the merger of a number of former technical colleges serving the Northern Region of the Eastern Cape. Its name derives from an indigenous medicinal plant, symbolising the college as an "educational remedy" for the communities it serves across the Joe Gqabi and Chris Hani district municipalities. The college operates five campuses – Aliwal North (business and engineering), Ezibeleni (engineering), Queen Nonesi (Lady Frere), Queenstown/Komani (central office), and Sterkspruit (business and engineering) – plus Cala and Ezibeleni skills centres. No published student enrolment figure was found. Ikhala offers NCV programmes and NATED/Report 191 diplomas, and, like other TVET colleges, is transitioning legacy NATED programmes toward Occupational Qualifications aligned to specific job roles.
