Eastcape Midlands TVET College (EMC) came into being on 31 March 2002 through the merger of Uitenhage Technical College, KwaNobuhle Technical College, Grahamstown Technical College and the satellite campus of Bethelsdorp Technical College in Graaff-Reinet, and was officially launched in October 2003. Its head office is in Kariega (formerly Uitenhage), and it operates nine campuses: High Street, Park Avenue, Charles Goodyear, Brickfields Road and Thanduxolo (in the Nelson Mandela Bay/Kariega area), plus Heath Park (Gqeberha), Grahamstown, Middle Street and Woeke Street (Graaff-Reinet). EMC serves both a highly industrialised urban area within the Nelson Mandela Metropole and a widespread, high-unemployment rural western part of the Eastern Cape, and states it has produced top-10 nationally ranked students in past years.
