Vhembe TVET College traces its roots to 1963, when it began as the Bantu State School, later becoming Finyazwanda College and then the Technical College of Venda (Techniven) before adopting its current name. The college's own site states it has "59 years of existence" (as published) and describes itself as having the highest student enrolment of any TVET college nationally, though it does not publish an exact figure. It is based in the Vhembe District Municipality of Limpopo (covering roughly 21,000 km2, about 18% of the province), with its central office in Sibasa.
