Gert Sibande TVET College was established in 2002 through the merger of the former Technical Colleges of Ermelo, Evander and Standerton, and is named after Richard Gert Sibande, an ANC farm workers' leader born in the Ermelo district in 1902. The college later expanded with the Sibanesetfu Campus at Mpuluzi (opened 2005), Balfour Campus (2014) and Perdekop Campus (2016), giving it six campuses across Mpumalanga plus a Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre.
