The International Trade Institute of Southern Africa (ITRISA) is a specialist training provider focused on international trade education, based at Trade Development House, Eden Gardens, 16 Wessel Road, Rivonia, Sandton, Gauteng. Its founders established the first structured trade training programme in southern Africa in the early 1980s, with the organisation formally launching in 1987 with its inaugural export qualification. It was incorporated as a Section 21 (not-for-gain) company in 1996 (registration no. 1996/011678/08) and now operates as a Non-Profit Company (NPC) under the Companies Act, 2008. ITRISA is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a private higher education provider (registration no. 2002/HE08/001) and states it is fully accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE). ITRISA hosts the Secretariat of the UK-registered International Association of Trade Training Organisations (IATTO) and has been an accredited IATTO training provider since 1998, holding the IATTO agency for southern Africa. The institute focuses exclusively on international trade: exports, imports, customs, and trade management, offering both accredited distance-learning qualifications and short training courses delivered in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, as well as customised in-house training and trade-related consultancy services.
