The Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC), registered as Southern African Wildlife College NPC (registration number 1996/005726/08), is a specialist conservation training institution whose campus lies within the Greater Kruger National Park, near Hoedspruit, Limpopo, South Africa. It was conceived in 1993, primarily through the World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa (WWF-SA) under Dr John Hanks, with land donated by Hans Hoheisen, and was officially unveiled by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in October 1996, becoming operational in 1997. Construction was funded by grants from the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ), the German Development Bank (KfW), and donors from Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. SAWC has been designated an Institute of Sectoral and Occupational Excellence (ISOE) by CATHSSETA, the SETA overseeing tourism, hospitality, guiding and nature conservation qualifications, and operates under the quality assurance frameworks of the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC), Umalusi and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO). In late 2024 its Diploma in Applied Natural Resource Management gained accreditation from the Council on Higher Education, with the qualification subsequently registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) at NQF Level 6.
