St John Vianney Seminary NPC is a Roman Catholic seminary and private higher education institution located at 179 Main Street, Waterkloof, Pretoria, South Africa. It operates under the Southern African Catholic Bishops' Conference (SACBC) Seminaries' Commission and provides formation and academic education for candidates for the Catholic priesthood, particularly diocesan priests, as well as for lay and religious students of philosophy and theology. The seminary was established on 14 April 1948 by Archbishop Lucas, initially in Queenstown, before relocating permanently to Waterkloof, Pretoria in 1950. In 2008 it unified with St Peter's Seminary, consolidating seminary formation for the Catholic Church in South Africa at the Pretoria campus. St John Vianney Seminary is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a private higher education institution in terms of the Higher Education Act, 1997, under Registration Certificate Number 2000/HE08/007, and is also registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO number 037-914). Its Bachelor of Philosophy and Bachelor of Theology qualifications are registered through the Council on Higher Education (CHE). The institution's motto is 'Fides et Ratio' (Faith and Reason), reflecting its combined philosophical and theological academic approach.
