Overview
Introduction to Generative AI and Agents is a free Microsoft Learn module made up of seven short units that explain the fundamentals behind modern AI applications. It covers core generative AI concepts, how large language models (LLMs) work, how to write effective prompts to get useful output from an LLM, and the basics of AI agents and agentic AI solutions, finishing with a hands-on exercise exploring generative AI and a knowledge-check assessment.
It’s pitched at a beginner level and is aimed broadly at AI engineers, developers, solution architects, and students who want a conceptual grounding before working hands-on with tools like Microsoft Foundry. Some familiarity with general AI terminology and a basic understanding of machine learning principles are recommended before starting.
The module is completely free and self-paced on Microsoft Learn. Learners who sign in and pass the module assessment earn a pass designation on their Microsoft Learn profile, along with a digital achievement badge for the module.
