To qualify, applicants must be unemployed South African citizens who have not previously participated in an internship at any government or state institution. Applications are submitted using the prescribed Z83 form, published alongside each department’s vacancy circular. Placements are available across fields including finance, psychology, social work, IT and supply chain management, at departments such as Correctional Services and Government Printing Works, among others.
Successful interns receive structured work exposure and training under the supervision of experienced professionals, though there is no guarantee of permanent employment on completion of the programme.
What this means for graduates: opportunities are published on a rolling basis via the DPSA’s Public Service Vacancy Circulars. Only apply through the official Z83 process listed in a current circular — never pay anyone to secure a placement.
