Cybersecurity Essentials

Overview

Cybersecurity Essentials is a Cisco Networking Academy course built around 27 modules split across three domains: Endpoint Security, Network Defense, and Cyber Threat Management. Learners work through how threat actors carry out common attacks, how TCP/IP and wireless vulnerabilities are exploited, how to secure Windows and Linux endpoints, and how to configure access control lists, firewalls, and Zone-Based Policy Firewalls. Later modules move into cloud security, cryptography, security monitoring and log analysis, governance and compliance, network security testing, threat intelligence, risk management, and digital forensics and incident response using models such as the Cyber Kill Chain and NIST 800-61.

It is aimed at high school, TVET/vocational, and university students, as well as general learners who already have a foundational grasp of networking and basic device configuration. The course is estimated at around 70 hours and includes over 75 hands-on labs and Packet Tracer activities plus a final exam.

Graduates earn a Cisco digital badge and come away positioned for entry-level roles such as Junior Cybersecurity Analyst, Cybersecurity Technician, or Tier 1 Help Desk Support, with the course content aligned to the CCST Cybersecurity certification and CyberOps Associate recommended as the next step.
