The Academy for Facilities Management (A4FM) is a private, specialist higher education institution based in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria, South Africa, dedicated exclusively to formal facility management (FM) education. It grew out of the FM academic department of another higher education institution, Centurion Academy, whose staff had run that department for about five years before A4FM was incorporated (Enterprise Reg. No. 2005/037308/07) and formally registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training and SAQA in 2009. A4FM's stated vision is to be the institution of choice for a formal tertiary learning path in facility management in Southern Africa. Programmes are delivered mainly through distance/blended learning with some face-to-face lecturer contact, and are aimed primarily at people already employed in the FM industry, from supervisory through managerial level, across NQF Levels 5 to 7.
Qualifications & Programmes
- Higher Certificate in Facilities Management (NQF Level 5) – aimed at FM supervisors and entry-level managers
- Advanced Certificate in Facilities Management (NQF Level 6) – with elective specialisation in Soft Services Management
- Advanced Certificate in Facilities Management (NQF Level 6) – with elective specialisation in Maintenance Management
- Advanced Diploma in Facility Management (NQF Level 7, 120 credits) – for FM professionals in managerial-level positions, covering accommodation services, soft services and facility maintenance management
- Advanced Diploma Bridging Course (preparatory/access route into the Advanced Diploma)
- Short courses based on Higher Certificate modules – offered either as a 2-day certificate-of-attendance option or a credited option (20 credits at NQF Level 5, including assessment and work-based practical learning); specific course titles are listed only in a downloadable 'Public Schedule Short Courses' PDF, not as page text
- Free introductory FM 'study experience' module (taster/orientation module)
