FEDISA Fashion School was established in January 2005 by Allen Leroux and Gerald Bird and is based at 81 Church Street in the Cape Town CBD, South Africa, having relocated to this campus in December 2011. It is a private higher education institution specialising exclusively in fashion education, offering qualifications from entry-level certificates through to postgraduate level in fashion design, applied fashion retail, merchandising, and fashion business. FEDISA states it is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997, with Registration Certificate No. 2007/HE07/001, and describes itself as the first private tertiary institution in South Africa to offer fully registered and accredited BA Fashion, BA Applied Fashion Retail and BA Honours Fashion degrees. In 2022, FEDISA joined the Honoris United Universities Group, a pan-African private higher education network.
