Hugenote Kollege (Huguenot College) is a private Christian higher education institution located in Wellington, Western Cape, South Africa. Its origins trace to the Huguenot Seminary, founded in 1874 by Dutch Reformed Church minister Dr Andrew Murray with the assistance of educators from Mount Holyoke Seminary in Massachusetts, and to the Huguenot University College (a constituent college of the University of South Africa until 1950) and Friedenheim (established 1904). Following the closure of these predecessor institutions, Hugenote Kollege was officially opened on 28 February 1951 as a training institution for social welfare and mission workers. From the early 1970s until 2012 it operated in academic partnership with the University of South Africa (UNISA), offering graduate and postgraduate qualifications; since that partnership ended it has operated independently as a private post-school training institution registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997. The college retains historic links to the Dutch Reformed Church while stating it is not exclusive to church members. It is organised into three schools – the School of Theology and Ministry, the School of Social Reformation, and the School of Social Innovation – offering accredited certificates, diplomas, degrees and short courses focused on training leaders for ministry and professionals for the social welfare sector. The campus occupies historic buildings dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries at 1 College Street, Wellington, 7655. Most enrolled students receive bursary support, though current total enrolment figures are not publicly available.
