Theological Education by Extension College (TEE College, legally Theological Education by Extension College NPC) is a South African distance-learning institution offering theological and ministerial training. It was established on 23 March 1976 under the South African Council of Churches, based on a theological-education-by-extension model that originated in Guatemala and was designed to bring seminary-level education to mature students without requiring relocation. TEE College was founded as an ecumenical cooperative project and continues to serve students from over 28 denominations as well as independent students across Southern Africa, with historic links to seven founding churches: the Anglican Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Methodist Church, Roman Catholic Church, Salvation Army, United Congregational Church, and Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa. The college is registered as a Non-Profit Company with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (registration no. 2007/030481/08), holds Public Benefit Organisation status (PBO no. 930028166), and is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a Private Higher Education Institution under the Higher Education Act (registration no. 2008/HE08/002). Its programmes are accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and its qualifications are registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Tuition is delivered entirely through distance/extension learning in English, with a stated mission to equip people for Christian ministry "anyone, anywhere."
