Overview

This is the “Intro to JS: Drawing & Animation” unit within Khan Academy’s Computer Programming pathway, which teaches JavaScript together with the ProcessingJS drawing library. Lessons progress through drawing basic shapes, using variables, building animations, adding logic and conditionals, writing functions, and working with arrays, objects, and debugging techniques.

Content is delivered through “programming talk-throughs” — videos where you pause and tinker with real code — alongside auto-graded coding challenges and self-evaluated projects. It’s designed for complete beginners with no prior coding experience, making it a good starting point for teenagers or self-learners curious about programming, including CAT/IT students who want a hands-on, visual way to learn to code by building drawings, animations and simple games.

The course is free and self-paced. Learners finish with practical JavaScript fundamentals and their own coding projects to show for it, forming a solid base before moving on to more advanced programming or web development courses.
