The Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) was established in 1997 and is based in Johannesburg at the SABC Radio Park complex, South Africa's broadcast and media hub, with an additional campus in Cape Town. ASE specializes in audio technology, sound engineering, music production and business, live sound, broadcast, and television/screen media education. It is registered as a private higher education institution in terms of section 54(1)(c) of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997), under registration certificate No. 2009/HE07/011. The academy is also recognised as Africa's most accredited AVID Learning Partner, offering Avid Pro Tools certification up to level 310, with graduates listed on the Avid Pro Tools Certified Operator Database. Industry partners include the SABC, Universal Music, Gearhouse, MultiChoice, SAMPRA, and CAPASSO.
