Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion (trading name of Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design (Pty) Ltd) is a private higher education institution established in 1996 by founder Elizabeth Galloway to train people for careers in South Africa's fashion industry. The academy is based in Techno Park, Stellenbosch, Western Cape, occupying two campus buildings. It specialises in fashion design education, covering design and product development, pattern making, garment construction, fashion illustration, textiles, computer-aided design, business and retail theory, and design management, combining practical training with theoretical and industry-based learning. The institution is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 (registration certificate NO.2011/HE07/001), is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and its full-time qualifications are registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
Qualifications & Programmes
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Fashion Design – 3-year full-time degree, registered with SAQA
- Diploma in Fashion Design – 3-year full-time diploma, CHE/HEQC quality-assured and SAQA registered
- Advanced Diploma in Fashion – 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time specialisation (apparel, accessory design or other specialised fields), CHE/HEQC quality-assured and SAQA registered
- Part-Time Fashion Design Course – introductory Saturday-class programme (two blocks: Fashion Design/Illustration/Technical Drawing/Textiles, and Pattern Making/Garment Construction); site states this is 'not an accredited course' and issues a certificate of completion for 80%+ attendance
- Fashion Business Incubator Programme (FBIP) – entrepreneurial mentorship/incubator programme for business owners (limited to 5 participants per year); not an academic qualification
