Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary (SMMS) is a private theological higher education institution located at 115 Golf Road, Epworth, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is the official theological school founded, owned and fully supported by the Methodist Church of Southern Africa (MCSA), which mandated it to "Form Transforming Leaders for Church and Nation." The seminary was named after Seth Mokitimi, the first Black President of the MCSA, following a decision at the church's 2007 Conference, and was established in January 2009, succeeding the earlier John Wesley College at Kilnerton as the church's ministerial training institution. SMMS is registered as a private higher education institution with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) under registration number 2010/HE08/002. Its academic programmes are accredited with the Council on Higher Education (CHE). Although a Methodist institution, it draws students from various mainline Christian denominations and racial and ethnic backgrounds across southern Africa, with faculty drawn from across sub-Saharan Africa, and serves the MCSA's connexion spanning South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, and Eswatini (Swaziland). Its focus is the academic and spiritual formation of ordained ministers and church leaders, combining rigorous theological study with practical ministry training and spiritual formation.
