NSFAS has issued an ongoing warning to students and applicants about fraud targeting the scheme. Scammers commonly impersonate NSFAS staff to request payment for processing applications or following up on outcomes — NSFAS is explicit that its staff will never request a fee to process an application.
Other common scams include fake social media profiles and groups impersonating NSFAS to collect personal information through deceptive links, and attempts to steal myNSFAS login credentials.
How to protect yourself:
– Never pay anyone claiming to facilitate an NSFAS application or outcome
– Avoid clicking suspicious links or joining unofficial groups claiming to be NSFAS
– Never share your myNSFAS login details with anyone, including people claiming to be NSFAS staff
– Log out of the myNSFAS portal after every session, on every device
To report suspected fraud, contact NSFAS directly via their toll-free hotline (08000 67327) or email info@nsfas.org.za, and report it to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
