Overview
Networking Basics is a 17-module Cisco Networking Academy course covering how small networks are built and how data actually moves across them. Topics include network types and components, wireless and mobile connectivity, setting up a home or small-office router securely, network media and cabling, the OSI and TCP/IP models, Ethernet framing, IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and subnetting, DHCP configuration, how routers and NAT connect networks, ARP, building a fully connected LAN, TCP/UDP and port numbers, and application-layer services such as DNS, HTTP, FTP, SSH, and email — finishing with hands-on network troubleshooting tools.
There are no prerequisites, making it suitable for secondary school, TVET, and university students, or anyone wanting a genuine grounding in IT and networking fundamentals. It runs about 22 hours and includes 13 practical labs using Cisco Packet Tracer plus a final test.
Completion earns a Cisco digital badge. The course sits in both the Junior Cybersecurity Analyst and Network Technician career paths, aligning with the CCST Cybersecurity and CCST Networking certifications, with Networking Devices and Initial Configuration as the recommended next course.
