Note: The official 2026 Armscor External Bursary Scheme (published by Armscor in November 2025) closed on 28 February 2026, which has already passed. Armscor had not published a 2027 bursary scheme document at the time of this research; based on the historical pattern, a new cycle is likely to open toward the end of 2026 with a closing date around late February 2027.

Overview

Armscor funds academically strong, financially needy South African students in engineering, science and IT fields relevant to the defence industry, covering tuition, accommodation, books and a living allowance for students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

What it covers

Tuition fees, accommodation and meals, prescribed books, a living allowance, and vacation work where possible

Eligibility

South African citizens from previously disadvantaged backgrounds with combined parent/guardian gross annual income of not more than R1,000,000, who achieved Levels 5, 6 and 7 in Mathematics, Physical Science and English, have excellent academic results, and are studying or intend to study full-time at a recognised public South African tertiary institution in an eligible field, with an interest in the defence industry.

Required documents

Completed application form, certified ID copy, matric mid-year results or matric certificate, full academic record (if at tertiary level), certified parent/guardian ID copies, proof of parent/guardian income (payslips, employment letter, SASSA letter, or affidavit), death certificate if a parent is deceased; university acceptance letter and final matric results required at later selection stages
