W&RSETA Bursary Scheme

Overview

The W&RSETA Bursary Scheme funds unemployed South Africans studying retail and wholesale-related qualifications at TVET colleges and universities, covering tuition, accommodation, meals and books, though applications must be channelled through an approved institution or employer rather than submitted individually.

What it covers

Up to R65,000 per year for university students and up to R45,000 per year for TVET college students, covering registration and tuition fees, a meal and book allowance, and accommodation costs

Eligibility

Unemployed South Africans enrolled or accepted for retail and related qualifications at a public or private TVET or HET institution; students already funded by W&RSETA who are progressing to the next level of their qualification may also qualify. Note: individual students cannot apply directly – applications must be submitted on their behalf by their institution, a bursary administrator, a levy-paying employer, or a Retail Sector Chair via the W&RSETA Stakeholder Portal

Required documents

Certified ID copy, proof of registration or acceptance at an accredited institution, academic transcripts, and proof of household income (submitted by the applying institution/administrator, not the student directly)

Retail and wholesale trade and related qualifications, prioritising fields listed as Sectoral Occupational Demand (hard-to-fill vacancies) and New and Emerging Occupations in the Wholesale and Retail Sector Skills Plan
