Cedar International Academy NPC traces its origins to 1994 as Cedar College of Education, founded by Kay Stegen; it partnered with North-West University from 2002 until that agreement ended in 2015, after which it pursued independent registration as a private higher education institution. It is based on the KwaSizabantu Mission premises near Kranskop, in a rural part of KwaZulu-Natal, and operates as a residential, Christian-ethos institution specialising in teacher education. Cedar offers on-campus Bachelor of Education degrees preparing students for Foundation Phase and Senior Phase/FET teaching careers. It is provisionally registered as a private higher education institution with the Department of Higher Education and Training (registration certificate no. 2021/HE08/001; the site states provisional registration valid until 31 December 2026), its BEd programmes are accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) and registered with SAQA at NQF Level 7, and the institution holds Public Benefit Organisation status (PBO ref. 930077266).
