Coastal KZN TVET College was formed from a merger of the former Durban Technical College, Swinton Road Technical College and Umlazi Technical College, together with the former Umbumbulu and Appelsbosch colleges of education. It is the largest TVET college in KwaZulu-Natal, with about 15,000 full-time equivalent students and roughly 800 staff, operating across eight campuses: Durban (main administrative centre), Umlazi V, Umlazi BB, Ubuhle Bogu, Umbumbulu, Swinton, As-Salaam and Appelsbosch. The college is known for specialised skills facilities including a Tooling Centre of Excellence, a Steel Fabrication & Furniture Manufacturing Centre, and a Samsung Engineering Academy, plus a Centre of Specialisation in Tooling & Die Making at Swinton and maritime studies training.
