The Design Academy of Fashion (DAF) was founded in 1999 by Daphne Treadaway in Cape Town, with Bianca Fobian and Suzanne Aldridge taking over leadership in 2006 (Luke Fobian joined as co-director in 2020). It is based at the Old Biscuit Mill, 375 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town. DAF specialises in fashion design education, covering design, patternmaking and garment construction, textiles, fashion styling, digital/CAD fashion design, and fashion business and commercial skills. It is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Certificate No. 2010/HE07/002). Its Higher Certificate: Fashion and Diploma: Fashion qualifications are accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and registered on the NQF via SAQA (SAQA IDs 90647 and 74129 respectively).
