Eastern Cape CET College is one of South Africa's nine public Community Education and Training (CET) Colleges, established under Section 3(1)(b) of the Continuing Education and Training Act 16 of 2006. Per the college's history page, the CET sector came into being on 1 April 2015, when the former Public Adult Learning Centres migrated from provincial education departments to the national Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), creating 9 CET Colleges (one per province) from 3,276 Community Learning Centres nationally. Headquartered at Border Training Centre, Mdantsane, East London, the college delivers free, DHET-funded adult and community education through Community Learning Centres and satellite sites across the Eastern Cape's six district municipalities and two metros (Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay), serving out-of-school youth and adults lacking basic schooling.
