Overview
Introduction to Digital Literacy is the foundational course on NEMISA’s free Digital Skills Platform (dsp.nemisa.co.za) and is built for people with little or no prior computer experience. It covers the basics of using a computer, navigating the internet and search engines, using email and instant messaging, and understanding safe, legal, and ethical behaviour online, along with practical exposure to everyday tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
It is aimed at first-time computer users, students, job seekers, and adult learners who need everyday digital skills for study, job applications, or basic workplace tasks, and it is often the recommended starting point before tackling NEMISA’s more specialised DSP courses.
On completion, learners have practical, hands-on ability to use a computer and the internet confidently and safely, along with basic office software skills and a NEMISA certificate of completion — a credential that can support job or further-study applications and lay the groundwork for the platform’s other digital skills courses.
