AP®️ Computer Science Principles

Overview

Khan Academy’s AP®️ Computer Science Principles course is built with the College Board and follows the official AP CSP framework, covering seven units: Digital Information, Online Data Security, the Internet, Programming, Algorithms, Simulations, and Computing Innovations. It mixes videos and articles with over 800 practice questions on topics like binary representation, encryption and passwords, how the internet works, programming logic, and the social impact of computing.

It’s aimed at students preparing to sit the AP Computer Science Principles exam, or anyone wanting a broad, code-light introduction to how computers, the internet and programming actually work. AP is a US exam system, so South African students won’t sit this specific exam unless their school separately offers AP, but the underlying computing concepts are internationally relevant for CAT/IT learners or anyone considering further computer science study.

The course is entirely free and self-paced. Learners come away understanding core computing concepts and basic programming principles, with the option to build toward AP exam readiness where that’s relevant to their school.
